Rodgers: Liverpool will challenge for Premier League title next season

The Reds boss says it's hard competing with Chelsea and Manchester City but insists he is as hungry for success as he has ever been despite a disappointing season.Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers remains confident the Reds will challenge for the title next season despite a disappointing campaign that has left the club facing an uphill task to finish in the top four.

The Reds finished runners-up in the Premier League to Manchester City last season but are now seven points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United having also tasted disappointment in cup competitions, suffering elimination at the group stages of the Champions League and being knocked out of the FA Cup by Aston Villa in the semi-finals.Liverpool have missed the goals of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, who has spent long periods out injured, and have just five games of the season remaining to make up the gap between themselves and Louis van Gaal's side. However, Rodgers insists he is as committed as ever and is confident he will eventually put an end to Liverpool's long wait for a league title."For me, I am as hungry as I have ever been," he told reporters. "I am ambitious to win and there is no greater place than here to win and I am still committed and motivated to do that here for sure."When I came in here, it was a long way off. The club was eighth and you'd never have even talked about it but I think it's a mark of how the club has moved forward that there is such disappointment we haven't challenged this year. I have absolutely no doubt it will happen."Chelsea are closing in on the title having spent heavily in the summer with Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis all arriving, and Rodgers admits it can be hard to compete."It is difficult [compared to the resources of Chelsea and Manchester City] but you can't just accept it," he added."Where we are now is probably par for where we sit in amongst it. We can't accept that, we have to continue to find ways to develop players, work to the idea of how the owners want to work and find a way to break in."That's something that I'm very hungry to do. And I won't rest in my time here until we do."
