Basel clinch record sixth consecutive title

Paulo Sousa's side lead the Super League by 11 points with just three games left and have become the first team to win the national crown for six years in a row.Basel have won their sixth straight Swiss Super League title thanks to a 0-0 draw with nearest rivals Young Boys at St Jakob-Park.Paulo Sousa's side had led the table by 11 points with four games still to play and the stalemate now means they have an insurmountable read.No team has ever won the national crown six times in a row and the Portuguese coach was delighted with how his side have fared since he succeeded Murat Yakin last summer.I am proud of my players because I demanded a lot of them and they accepted my ideas, he told SRF Television.They deserve everything.And club president Bernhard Heusler was delighted with how his decision to employ the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder has worked out.He said: We took risks last summer. Sousa brought in new policies and, if it had gone wrong, we would have felt the consequences.Basel, who reached the last 16 of the Champions League, have the chance to complete the dometic double when they meet Sion in the Swiss Cup final on June 7.
