Man United take non-league star on trial

Sam Grimshaw, of Glossop North End, has been invited to train with the Red Devils this summer, and hopes to earn a permanent contract with Louis van Gaal's side.Manchester United have taken non-league player Sam Grimshaw on trial. The Glossop North End player, a former Manchester City academy player, is a boyhood United fan and is now set to train with his idols as he attempts to win a permanent contract at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old was initially taken on trial with the Red Devils earlier in the year and his period at Carrington was extended in April.

The left-back has now been invited back for pre-season training and could travel with United on their summer tour of the United States.I got a call from my agent saying they wanted to take a look at me, Grimshaw told the Manchester Evening News.It was brilliant news. It is a big opportunity of course with United and I have got to try and take the chance as I have always been a fan of the club. They asked me to go in for a one week trial and that was extended until the end of the season. Now they want me to go back in July. I cannot wait.Glossop manager Chris Willcock, meanwhile, hopes the player can earn himself a move to United.Hopefully we can get a few quid for him that can go on the budget, which will be nice, he said.He is a young man with really good qualities. He is still learning and being in and around a club of the stature of Manchester United can only help him develop.
