De Gea set to make 200th Man Utd appearance

The Spaniard will reach the landmark by starting in goal for United's Premier League clash with Newcastle at St James' Park.David de Gea will make his 200th Manchester United appearance after being selected in goal for the Premier League visit to Newcastle. The Spaniard signed for United in the summer of 2011, making his debut against Manchester City in the Community Shield soon after, but very nearly departed for Real Madrid in August until a last-minute collapse saw him remain at Old Trafford.De Gea was left out of the first six games of the 2015-16 season as a result of Madrid's interest, with manager Louis van Gaal claiming he was not in the right frame of mind to take the field for United.

However, Madrid's late failure to clinch a deal was soon followed by De Gea penning a new four-year contract and he has returned as Van Gaal's first-choice goalkeeper since then, starting 25 of the following 26 games.Of the current first-team squad, only Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Antonio Valencia have appeared more often for Manchester United than the 25-year-old.United head into the clash at St James' Park looking to back up recent wins over Swansea City and Sheffield United, although they had lost their last three away matches in all competitions - at Wolfsburg, Bournemouth and Stoke City.
