Rodgers: Humbling guard of honour can inspire Liverpool

The Blues sealed the Premier League title last weekend and the Reds will congratulate the newly-crowned champions before their clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool will give champions Chelsea a guard of honour on Sunday, and hopes the move will "spur" his players to victory at Stamford Bridge. The Blues wrapped up the Premier League title last weekend with a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, but the Reds remain embroiled in a battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League.Liverpool sit seven points behind Manchester United – who occupy fourth spot following their own win over Palace on Saturday – but have a game in hand, and Rodgers hopes that honouring Jose Mourinho’s men will provide his side with the incentive they need to emerge victorious in west London. It is the protocol and what you do,” Rodgers told reporters. “They deserve to be champions. It's not something the players would like to do but we are a team and a club that has class and dignity, so we will do it and go straight into the game. Hopefully there will be a spur. That is natural.”Rodgers says he has sent a congratulatory message to Mourinho, and admits that the Blues are rightful title winners. When you win the league you won't play 38 perfect games,” he added. “But you'll be deserving champions. That's what they are.
